Tile Calculator
How many tiles and boxes for a floor or wall, including grout joints and waste.
How it's calculated
Each tile covers (length + grout) × (width + grout) ÷ 144 sq ft. Tiles = area ÷ that coverage, plus waste, rounded up. Use 10% waste for straight lay and 15% for diagonal or herringbone.
Example
120 sq ft of 12 × 24 tile with ⅛-inch joints and 10% waste: 65 tiles, or 9 boxes of 8.
Waste by layout
| Layout | Waste |
|---|---|
| Straight / grid | 10% |
| Brick (offset) | 10–12% |
| Diagonal | 15% |
| Herringbone | 15–20% |
